NPDP - DALT DINNER
written on Sunday, April 29, 2007 @ 4:59 AM ✈

It was a blast yesterday! I'll start from the morning I woke up at 4.30am and got changed. I was kinda shocked when I saw myself in the mirror. I've never worn a skirt like the NP one before. I looked pretty weird. I sorta lied to my father, saying that I was to reach school by 6, as he is always late. But luckily, the traffic in the morning was slow, so I reached school slowly. On the way, I was SMSing Puay Ling. She was on Alicia's car. When I got to school, I saw a ma'am behind me. I wasn't sure actually, the lights of the car were flashing into my eye. As it was dark, the light seems pricking. I couldn't possibly wait to see if it was a ma'am, it would be awkward standing there to wait. I decided to walk in straight. I saw Wenxian, Puay Ling and Alicia going around the school.

However, I needed to go to the toilet urgently. I dashed towards the nearest toilet. A ma'am popped out and stared at me. I was too frightened to recognise who she was and even to greet. Quickly, she banged the door in my face. I was like, what was I doing? I was still desperate to go to the toilet, I ran up the the second level, and it said "Choked, do not go in". I was so unlucky. I finally found one that is vacant and working well in my 3rd try.

I met up with them downstairs and we began greeting ma'ams who walked past the quadrangle. It was quite uncomfortable at first. It was like a shout in the quiet empty quadrangle to the ma'ams. More squadmates began to arrive and so did more ma'ams. I couldn't really identify who had passed us.

We started to fall in after Shiao Kee reached school. There were many problems. Some squadmates' hair were untidy and my shirt was not properly done and such. Ma'am had to tell me that. After we got some practices, we also had water breaks. During one of the water breaks, Jiajia started vomiting in the toilet. We were asked to fall in and Jiajia still continued the parade. The ma'ams looked so smart and they were so good! When we got to the ending of the last rehearsal, I was so excited! The moment where we sang the national anthem and also the NPCC pledge - I felt a sense of achievement. Laugh if you like, but that's how I felt. I'm not lying to myself.

When reaching the other end of the canteen, I felt a little sad actually. The parade was just...over. I was proud to have all my squadmates around, we were still chirping all about how we felt. We attended the morning assembly and we got into a cheering session where the school cheered for the SYF teams. I was wondering if we could cheer in our uniform. We proceeded to the field where we took photos and cheered. We were dismissed and I went back to class. People kept talking about the uniform and I felt uneasy. Who wouldn't?

Soon, it was recess. I saw some of the squadmates in the canteen. I bought a hotdog and a packet of milo before joining them. I greeted a few ma'ams by myself and I was a little nervous. I hope I was loud enough. A few days ago, I was afraid. What if they asked me to do it again? Maybe that made me speak a little louder. They were very nice. Some ma'ams gave a nod. They looked so mature.

Just a few minutes before the bell rang, Jiajia and I was walking and we saw about 10 ma'ams. We wanted to turn, but I decided not to. I offered to "urp". Then Jiajia relented. Seeing so many of them, I was also scared. Nevertheless, I still tried my best to "urp" and greet them. A pity I didn't get to greet our NCOs. They could have corrected me to do better.

During lunch, there was a photo-taking session at the quadrangle. We saw the ma'ams take photos with their NCOs and they looked so "zai". We were literally looking up to them. When it was our turn to take pictures with our NCOs - Sharon ma'am, Jing-yi ma'am, Yee Lin ma'am and Si Min ma'am, we were laughing. Our ma'ams thought Yee Lin ma'am wasn't smiling enough. They were like arguing in a funny way. It was pretty hilarious, I wanted to laugh badly. Puay Ling and Zi Han wanted to take pictures of NCOs after that, and I tagged along with them, since I had nothing else important to do. Coincidentally, Jing-yi ma'am was at a meeting and ma'ams told us to take pictures during the Dalt Dinner.

I carried on with the rest of the lessons. Language Arts was tiring. We had to go to the board room and as we are not allowed to cross our legs, I kneeled the whole lesson. After school, I saw many squadmates on the 3rd level. They were discussing about who wanted to go home or to Bugis Junction directly. I went to the canteen with Zi Han. We were buying our lunch when we saw Mr Lim. He was talking, I don't know to who. When I was turning around to just randomly look while waiting for my chicken rice, I saw Sock Keng ma'am. I nudged Zi Han. I gave the "urp" and we greeted her. She gave a swift and steady nod and walked off. By then, our chicken rice was almost ready. I gobbled everything up and called Wenxian many times. She had asked me to send her home and she's slow. I walked to the auditorium and got on my dad's car. I stood near the auditorium and waited for her. Apparently, she is easily noticed. She came dashing out with all her bags. (Note: she had 3) I helped her with them and she got on the car.

By the time I reached home, it was 4.20pm already. I washed up and got changed. I was undecided about what to wear. As time was running out, I quickly picked out my jeans and the plain white top I had. After changing, I called Wenxian and Zi Han, asking them to meet at 4.45pm. When I set out of the house, it was 4.30pm already. I dashed and ran. I saw Zi Han at about 4.50pm. Ma'ams were also there, they went down the escalator and went up at Jurong East. Then they ran past us.We were quite surprised.

We waited for quite a long time before we finally boarded the train. Wenxian was 20 minutes behind us. Zi Han was hyper and she walked from one end of the train to another. We talked a lot, and when we reached Bugis, I saw Clarissa, Glenda and Hui Han. Yan Ni arrived shortly and we went to Bugis Junction. Yee Lin ma'am was walking around. We waited till about 6pm before we went in. There were a few other groups of party going on too.

Zi Han and I got some meat, sausages to steam and barbecue. We kept getting in and out. As Wenxian was sitting at the outer seat, I had to keep squeezing out and crawling in. The ma'ams were seated at a separate table and actually they looked very sweet. I seemed to be eating a lot as I kept getting the food. Then I got tired and asked the others to get them. I didn't really get a chance to cook the food. Then we were taking some photos. Pei Ting turned the flashlight on and took a picture. Someone asked, "where did the light come from?" Without thinking, Pei Ting replied, "I'm flashing lah!". Those who heard the reply burst out laughing. I was laughing and laughing till my stomach hurt. I couldn't stop. That was so funny. After like about 3 seconds later, Pei Ting went, "Oh my god!" Then she had a weird expression on her face, not knowing to laugh or cry. Even when I recall it now, I still can't stop laughing. The scene was so funny!

Puay Ling asked ma'am for permission for the first time and they were quite amused. They said we didn't have to ask. I thought we had to let them know we were going out. I went to the toilet with Puay Ling twice and also went with her to ask the ma'ams if we could take pictures. But they refused by asking us to do it later. Puay Ling was quite "heart-broken". I was getting the ice cream after coming back from the toilet and everyone was about to leave. I gulped it down and walked out soon.

We went to the fountain on the ground level where water goes up and comes splashing down. The ma'ams took a group photo and we began to take squad photos with NCOs. As Yue Qi urgently needed to go to the toilet after drinking too much grape soda, she pulled Wenxian, Hui Han and I along. When we got back, ma'ams started to talk to us.

They said that we shouldn't have taken pictures when they were eating. Actually I wanted to take pictures with them in their uniform with all squadmates. We were planning to have a squad talk but changed our mind at the end. How disappointing. I went to the MRT station with Zi Han, Yan Ni, Hui Han, Pei Yin and Yi Jia. All of us except Hui Han was going towards the west. We were actually dozing on the train. Pei Yin, Zi Han and Hui Han got off at Jurong East, where I got off at Lakeside. I said goodbye to sleepy Yi Jia before getting off the train. When nearing Cheers, I was wanting to buy a chocolate bar to walk home but 98 came already. I usually cross the bridge to take 240 as 98 was a "rare" bus to wait for. Since it was there, I just decided to forget about my chocolate bar and get on it. It was so tiring. When I got home, I was only reading about 3 pages of JK Rowling's biography and I fell asleep. It was almost 11 then.

I really enjoyed April 27. It is the best day of the year! Wearing the unit tee and marching in the school assembly. Greeting the ma'ams was also very nerve-wrecking but we loved it still. The day we got a unit dinner, the day we get to wear our uniform. I feel like a part of NP. Love NPCC forever and ever. Squadmates, you rock!
