First Dalt!
written on Saturday, April 21, 2007 @ 12:55 PM ✈

There is so much "NP", I am considering of making a category for NPCC. Oh first let me introduce DALT - Dragon & Lion Dance Troupe. We do the Lion Dance, which is performed very frequently during Chinese New Year. And the ma'ams told us that we were to learn to play the "ba4". I wonder which word is that. I feel like I have so many things to say.

We had to help carry the drums and instruments out to the field and initially, carrying the drum was easy, but my job at the end was tough. I'll tell you about it later.

Before we got to that, we had to run around the school once and round the track once. There was stretching and there was silence. So uncomfortable...

It was pretty fun at first. The beat for "起鼓" is 1-2-3 1 1 1-2-3. The drum will be hit at the side before it starts. Sorry if it is boring you. Try not to look A reference for myself actually. My squadmates and I got to try with the drum beats many times. I sort of enjoyed it Later on, ma'ams taught us how to "起狮" Let me see if I can recall the beat - 1-123-223-323-423 da dong 1-123. Looks really stupid when I type it out.

What continued was "行礼". eeep. We are supposed to hit the beats according the the drum, from loud gradually changing to soft. When it get softer, you "keep" it at your waist to prevent vibration. But when we practised, I screwed up. I don't think I followed the drum at all. Bad listener~ I forgot to say that after every part we learnt, each of us must practise individually with the drum beat. I don't think there is a definite timing for "行礼".

Now for "平鼓", the ma'ams would drum da-dong, da-dong, and we should be hitting 1-1-1....Roughly 2 times per music beat. When ma'ams raise their hand higher than normal, we are supposed to produce a louder sound with the ba.

So when you put it together, you'll get 1-2-3 11 1-2-3 1-123 223 323 423 da dong 1-123 CLang (x3 from loud to soft) 1-1-1-1-* then stop.

*No timing, depends on situation. Must remember to tell other squadmates about the actions and beats

From there, we ended the day with a long kekenan lurus. We had to fall in together with all the other ma'ams. It was something different. I was carrying the basket of ba when we packed up for the NP room. I was struggling. I had like almost 15 plus of them in the basket. And the other basket was only 2/3 full. I was so afraid I'll damage them if I fell down. I was shifting my hands' position every now and then, trying to find the best way to hold the basket. I think it was about 3kg plus. Almost as heavy as my bag.

I'm so embarrassed to say that my arms are aching and my stomach muscles hurt too. I hit it too many times with the ba. Apparently, I don't know how to find the fats to hit the ba with

痛痛~

Something worth getting really excited for is the DALT Dinner on the 27th of April, on a Friday. It is coming really soon, and we have to confirm a day which all of us can go to get our uniform for next Friday. I can't wait for it! I think I sound weird.

I hope everyone will do well for the NP Total Defence test and our first parade ever next Friday~
